Our Estate Maintenance Department can help you to...
- Get chainsaw, hedge cutter, strimmer and spraying tickets
- Drive a tractor, use trailers, harrows and toppers
- Get Working at Heights & Emergency First Aid qualifications
- Learn fencing and repairs
- Look after a 500-acre estate with woods, fields and lawns
- Get your licence to work on sites (CSCS Card)
- No prior experience is necessary as full training is given
Our Programme
Our Level 1 course lasts 3 months. Level 2 is a further 3-month placement. Please read the ‘Length of Stay’ section on our Referrals page for more information.
Level 1 is about learning the basics of the trade and gaining work experience.
Level 2 is about Increasing your work experience and skill level.
By the end of Level 2, trainees will usually have had the opportunity to take tests and acquire:
- Chainsaw
- Maintenance
- Cross-cutting
- Felling up to 15″
- Ariel rescue
- Climbing (handsaw)
- Rope & harness (chainsaw)
- Hedgecutter and Strimmer tickets
- Spraying ticket
- Driving Theory
- Health & Safety
- Manual handing
- Working at Heights
- Emergency First Aid
Examples of dept skills you can learn:
- Cut a hedge safely and tidy up afterwards
- Use a chemical sprayer competently
- Undertake a range of chainsaw work
- Mow a section of grass competently with straight lines
- Weed and prepare an area of ground for planting out plants with even spacing
- Strim an area safely taking into account windows and trees
- Drive a tractor with trailer and carry out pre-start checks
- Working on ladders and platforms safely
- Put harrows on a tractor and harrow a field
- Put topper on tractor and top a field
- Roll a field
- Measure out and complete a fencing job
- Rotovate an area for seeding
For trainees that prove themselves and for whom it is deemed appropriate, there may be opportunities to extend the placement and achieve a deeper level of work experience and skill.
Trainees might get the opportunity to work toward or achieve some of the following:
- Continue work experience through the remaining 2 seasons and gain experience of every season
- Practical driving lessons
- Further opportunity to pass some or all of the tests listed above
